Joan H. Murphy, 85, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning July 13, 2016 in Boynton Beach.Joan was born in the Bronx, NY, to Captain George Winter of the FDNY and his wife Helen (nee Lauten) in 1930. She graduated from the Bellevue School of Nursing of New York University, and married James Murphy on January 13, 1951 in St Raymond’s Roman Catholic Church in the Bronx. Joan worked as a labor and delivery nurse in Westchester Square Hospital until the birth of her first child in 1952. The Murphy family moved to Massapequa, Long Island in 1959, where she took great pride in raising her four children. She was an active member of the PTA and Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Massapequa. In 1994, she retired to Florida, where she continued to enjoy watching her family grow while hosting them for family vacations.Joan is preceded in death by her husband Jim, daughter Janice Anderson, brother George Winter, and parents George and Helen Winter.Joan is survived by sons James (Carol), John (Joyce), Justin (Kathleen), her 12 grandchildren Denise Currier (Adam), Susan Geffken (Paul), Megan Dube (Michael), Caitlin Murphy, Kiera Murphy, James Murphy, Chris Murphy (Brittany), John Murphy, Brittany Murphy, Aidan Murphy, Emma Murphy and Ciaran Murphy, and her 6 great-grandchildren Moira Dube, Maeve Dube, John Dube, Anderson Geffken, Aidan Murphy, and Nolan Murphy.Should friends desire, donations may be made in Joan’s honor to FDNY Foundation.
