John P. Faldetta of Massapequa Park, New York, died peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2014. He was born on April 18, 1921 in Canicatti, Sicily, the son of Alfonsina and Eduardo Faldetta and brother of the late Mary Faldetta. He is survived by his wife Irene and children — Janice (Rich) Dobson, Ann, Carol (Kevin) Malone, Peter (Tricia Waring), Susan (David) Adams, John (Danielle) and Laura (Gregory) Begg. He was the loving grandfather of twelve grandchildren. John was a proud Veteran who served in the Army during World War II. He began his career with the Port Authority where he worked for 36 years and retired as Assistant Chief of Operations at JFK Airport. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the local chapter of the AARP, and took an active part in community service. He was an ombudsman for nine years at various nursing homes, and volunteered at his parish Outreach program. John enjoyed many years of singing and acting with his show group at local venues.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Faldetta's passing. When I think back to childhood barbeques and neighborhood parties, it is his voice I hear singing "If I Were a Rich Man." No one ever sang it better. My deepest sympathies to the Faldetta family.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Mr. Faldettas passing. I can still picture him singing "If I were a Rich Man". I also remember going to his mom's home for a fantastic meal with Anne. He was always so sweet to my folks. All our sympathies.

It has been over 50 years, yet I recall my Mother Mildred speaking so fondly of Johnny Faldetta when they both appeared in Lou DiPiro's musical play directed by Tony Bavaar, HOLIDAY FOR LINDA to raise funds for St Rose of Lima.
