I have such fond memories of Mr. DeGruchy. He also made me smile whenever I was lucky enough to share time with him. He truly was a kind, loving man who left a legacy of decency and honesty. I am saddened by his death but know he rests eternally with his beloved Marian. I thank him forhis service to his country and wish himGodspeed on his new journey.

Pop always made me some really good food when I came over. When I was younger, after days of mowing the lawns, he’d make me a ice cream soda, by getting cream soda and putting ice cream in it, it was delicious. Will never forget,

I remember how fond he was of all his grandchildren. He was so kind, was always there for each of them, no matter the circumstances. He was selfless, cared only about others. Not a day goes by when I don’t miss his goofy smile and kind words. Love you Poppy, say hi to grandma for me.

I remember the days when I was little where Marion and I would be told to spend the day with Poppy. I remember he would always make us eat something and it was always the best. I remember some days he would take us on a trip to places to do chores with him and even if what we were doing was boring he would find a way to make it fun. And if we were good, he would hand us treats like these little waffle cookies or hershey kisses. I also remember on Thanksgiving, he would make his special creamed onions and turnips and I would leave the dinner table stuffed. Of course I was a pretty fat kid, but I will always remember those where he would take care of me and come over for meals. Rest easy Poppy, we all love you.

simply put.....He was the "mother" of all Father-in-laws. Was it fate or luck to have found his daughter....does not matter what matters is how fortunate I have been to be a part of his life.

I was a first year apprentice for local 38, at the end of my first year around the holidays my boss told me I would be laid off for 6-8 wks. This was because I was a 1st year appt and next season I would be a 2nd year man and would not be laid off. He also said to collect unemployment during that time span. Well I was living at home with my parents and paying a token rent ( which barely covers my food bill ) When I got home that night I told my father what had happened . He asked " well what are you going to do'? I told him I was gonna take it EZ for a while and collect unemployment until I'm called back to work. " The Hell you are" my dad said, No son of mine is going on the government dole. He told me he would not charge me rent while I was out but I had to actively seek work and /or work around the house or I could go find other living arrangements . Well I thought my father was crazy, I soon got a job with a local plumber and have since made it my career/business. It took many years to understand why my dad thought it was wrong to take money that I didn't really need but was entitled to. He taught me a valuable lesson which in today society is completely lost. He taught me how to stall tall and be proud of myself. How to be , in his opinion, a real American .My Father comes from the Old School, I only prey my kids will learn from this and follow the path My dad laid for me. They just don't make Men like my father anymore. My dad was a force in my life ,He will be in my thoughts everyday. Love you pop, Hard to believe you won't be there for me to talk to anymore.
