Kevin Chambers was born in New York City on August 4, 1949. He was the youngest of six children of Mabel and John Chambers. Kevin died on April 9,, 2018 at NY Presbyterian Hospital from complications of Myelodisplastic Syndrome (MDS). He was 68 years old. Kevin joins his deceased parents and his brothers Donald Chambers and John Chambers in God’s heaven. He leaves behind him his sisters Eileen Ruski of Decatur, Illinois, Colleen Detroy, and Maureen McGrath who survive him, and his wife Marianne and their children Jennifer, Kevin, Jr., and Meghan.Kevin married Marianne Grieco. They are the parents of Jennifer Chambers, Kevin Chambers, Jr., and Meghan Chambers and the grandparents of Isabelle, age 6 years and Madalyn, 9 months old. Isabelle and Madalyn were the light of Kevin’s life. Also mourning his loss are Jennifer’s husband Tim Heck and Kevin’s wife Maria Gligan-Chambers.Kevin joined the United States Marines when he was 18 years old and served honorably including in Vietnam combat. Throughout his life, Kevin was always a proud Marine, an experience which helped define him. Kevin was a loyal husband, father, brother, uncle, friend who was always on the spot to help all of us when we needed him.Kevin worked in the public sector and was a member of Local 1320, NYC Sewage Treatment Workers, DC 37, AFSCME. He was a strong union supporter all his life.To family and friends who wish to honor Kevin’s’ memory, you may contribute to a U.S. Veterans organization or to the Disabled American Vets (DAV) or the Wounded Warrior Project. Kevin cared deeply about other vets and it was his wish to help other veterans.Both Kevin and Marianne loved travel and spending time with family, extended family, nieces and nephews. He leaves behind memories of good times, barbeques, and holiday parties. We miss him already. Get togethers will not be the same without him.To all who loved Kevin, live each day to the fullest.
