Julia J. Steckel, 92, of Massapequa, passed away at her home on Wednesday June 19th 2019. Born in Astoria Queens, she moved out to Massapequa Park Long Island with her parents, William and Rose Meyer, and siblings Francis(Frank) and Jeanette in 1931. She grew up during the Depression, with money tight she entered into the Cadet Core Nursing Program to obtain her RN at Adelphi University. She was a Head Nurse on South Wing at Massapequa General Hospital. She met her future husband Theodore Steckel at Mineola Hospital and married on January 11th 1946. They had four children: Kathleen, Marilyn, Theodore and Karen. Sadly Marilyn passed away June of 1981, and Theodore(only son) September 12th 2017. She is survived by daughters Kathy and Karen, 7 Grandchildren and 10 Great grandchildren. She was a Girl Scout leader, loved reading, cooking, traveled to Italy and England and loved spending time with her girlfriends at Brady Park Senior Center.
