Frank T. Spatarella9/26/1928 – 3/17/2018Frank Spatarella, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17th at Dominican Village in Amityville, NY. A Brooklyn NY native and resident of Massapequa NY, Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Frank leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Caroline; their children James (and wife Karen), Joseph (and wife Maggie), and Carolyn (and husband Kevin) Noonan; grandchildren Regina (Ball), Tyler and Crystal Noonan, and Alexis Dovel; and his younger brother James (Jay) Spatarella (and wife Ann).Frank was a building engineer for the Air Force, worked in his father’s dry-cleaning business, was a factory clothing presser, limo driver, worked in a funeral home, and did other odd or part time jobs as needed before he found his career in the US Postal Service.Alongside family, commitment to work and devotion to church and community were significant to Frank. His career continued after retirement. After 34 years, Frank retired from the US Postal Service where he started as a clerk, continually advanced himself, and ended his career as superintendent of delivery for Manhattan. He continued to support his peers for several years after retirement by working for the National Association of Postal Supervisors (NAPS). Thereafter, he participated with the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).Frank’s strong belief in church and community resulted in leadership positions in the Holy Name Society, Church Parish Council, Neighborhood Civic Association, The Columbia Association and most notably, the Knights of Columbus. There he was he was awarded the level of fourth degree knight in June 1969 and honorary life membership of the Knights of Columbus in September 2007. He was the past grand knight of Council 4629 from 1968 to 1970 and District deputy for Districts 39 and 38 from 1971 and 1973, respectively. Frank was also a member of various councils (2489, 3476, 2718) over the past 40 years.Frank loved people and made a point of remembering everyone’s name.
